Guggenheim Fellowship

For 100 years, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has offered fellowships to exceptional individuals in pursuit of scholarship in any field of knowledge and creation in any art form, under the freest possible conditions. The Guggenheim Fellowship has enjoyed a prestigious reputation in the academic world, especially in the creative arts; but beyond these circles, their work has often gone unnoticed.

Building on a new brand identity created by Pentagram, AREA 17 created a new digital home for the Fellowship that bridges past and present to reveal the impact of the organization’s work and the critical importance of supporting it.

The website showcases more than 19,000 writers, scholars, scientists, and artists in over 50 fields of study whose contributions have shaped our culture and society; it draws from the Foundation’s robust historical archives to reveal untold stories of great minds and great works; and it modernizes the presentation of the Fellowship program to clarify the breadth of disciplines supported and the open application process. The result is an informative and inspirational experience that helps us understand the immense rewards of investing the full range of liberal and creative arts,
at a moment when that support is needed most.
