Marisa Hetzler

Design Apprentice

As a Design Apprentice at AREA 17, Marisa is excited to learn how to create design systems that communicate with purpose and clarity. She is particularly interested in exploring how to apply these systems to digital products that are both culturally and physically accessible. She is excited to be a part of a team where collaboration and iteration are valued parts of the design process.

Marisa has an educational background in Graphic Design, Art History and Psychology. She is passionate about the intersection of design and social justice, which has led her to collaborate with organizations like Drug Policy Alliance, Broadway Advocacy Coalition, and the Sun Prairie Public Library. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2021, she completed a year-long fellowship with the Center for Urban Pedagogy where she learned how to lead projects using community-engaged design methods. Through attending trainings led by social justice advocates, and collaborating with community stakeholders, Marisa has been working towards building a design practice that is based in inclusivity, power-building, and care.

Outside of work, you can find Marisa catching up on her favorite reality TV shows, enjoying Brooklyn’s music scene, and daydreaming about her next mechanical keyboard build.
